Schengen visa (short stay)

For nationals of certain states, a Schengen visa (type C visa) issued by one of the member countries of the Schengen area is required for a period of stay of up to 90 days.

With a Schengen visa, you can enter any of the countries in the Schengen area and travel throughout the Schengen area. A Schengen visa allows its holder to enter Schengen territory for one continuous visit or multiple visits, for which the total duration does not exceed 90 days in a period of 180 days.

A Schengen visa can be issued for one entry or multiple entries into the Schengen area:

An entry visa authorizes the visa holder to enter and stay in the Schengen area continuously for the duration of the visa's validity, with a maximum duration of 90 days (for example from July 1 to September 28);
A multiple entry visa allows multiple entries and stays in the Schengen area, as long as the total number of days spent in the Schengen area does not exceed 90 days in a period of 180 days. The stay can be continuous or divided into several periods within the limits of the validity of the visa. A Schengen circulation visa is a multiple entry visa valid for one to five years, issued by decision of the Embassy or Consulate.

National visa (long stay)

If you want to stay longer than 90 days, you must apply for a national long-stay visa or a stay / residence permit. A national visa (type D) is valid for a stay of more than 90 days, only in the country issuing the visa. However, a national visa allows transit through other Schengen countries, and for certain long-stay work, student or visitor visas, etc., to travel throughout the Schengen area without restriction.

Airport transit visa

An airport transit visa may be required depending on your nationality and depend on the residence permit or visa you hold for certain countries. This visa allows its holder to transit through the territory of the Schengen area but does not allow him to leave the international area of the airport.

Algerian nationals are not required to hold an airport transit visa to transit through the Schengen area. However, if the transit involves a change of airport, a classic transit visa is required.
